Yakima Base Roof Racks For Vehicles With Factory Installed Raised Rails

    As factory installed racks with raised railings have become more common the last few years, so have the load carriers that work with them. If your raised rails come with crossbars, you can get roof rack mounted bicycle racks, ski carriers, even cargo boxes that will fit on your crossbars. But if your raised rails don't come with crossbars, or you're disappointed with your factory crossbar's wimpy weight rating, think about investing in a Yakima LowRider rack. With a maximum load capacity of 165 pounds (on most vehicles), getting where you're going with all the gear you need will never be a problem again!
    Installation Instructions/Tips
    The Yakima y0118c LowRider Raised Railing Mounted Rack attaches to vehicles with factory raised rails. These may be the easiest towers on the planet to install and remove. Simply slide the towers onto the Yakima crossbars and flip up the tightening lever on each tower and rotate counterclockwise to open up the LowRider's jaws. Then install the bar end caps to keep the towers from sliding off of the bar. Now set the bar on top of your vehicle, with each tower sitting on top of the raised rail. Finally, after evenly distributing the crossbars through the towers, twist the tightening lever clockwise until you feel firm resistance. This will tighten the Yakima 0118 Low Rider Towers and crossbars at the same time to your factory raised rails. The Yakima LowRider clamps side to side for nice snug fit to your factory raised rails. The LowRider system fits a broad range of factory installed raised rails including smaller European rails and oversized SUV rails.

Yakima LowRider Max Claw Kit
    Yakima also provides the  Yakima 0136 Low Rider Max Railing Mounted Roof Rack, which is specifically designed to fit vehicles with odd shaped raised rails. A specified Yakima Low Rider Max Claw Kit allows for a snug custom fit on specific factory installed rails. There are 3 different Yakima Claw Kits, check out the Yakima Fit Guide to see which one your vehicle needs. The Yakima LowRider Max towers install the same way as the Yakima LowRider towers, except for the additional of the Yakima Claw Kit, which replaces the more generic clamp with one specially made to work with your harder-to-fit raised rails.

Test The Installation
    Push up on the end of bar to test the installation.  Also, grab the bar near the towers and pull back and forth.  If the tower slides or crossbar can rotate, check tower for tightness and re-tighten.

    The Yakima Low Rider Complete Railing Mounted Car Roof Rack includes three components: 4 of the LowRider Towers, 1 Pair of Yakima Crossbars, and 4 End Caps. The height of the Yakima LowRider towers when mounted on your raised rail is about 3” from the top of your raised rail to the top portion of the Yakima LowRider Tower. Unless otherwise specified, Yakima’s recommended crossbar length will be provided. For full locking security, we recommend the Yakima 7204 4 Pack SKS Lock Cores (sold separately.)

For full locking security, we recommend Yakima Lock Cores (sold separately.) Unless otherwise specified, Yakima’s recommended crossbar length will be provided.
