Rack Warehouse: Winter Sport Carrying Options

Rack Warehouse: Winter Sport Carrying Options

Do you like winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding? Do you have a vehicle, but are not sure what your options are for carrying your equipment?

Since there are quite a few options available, you’ll need to figure out what matters to you the most.  Some things to think about are:

  • Do you have a rack system installed on your vehicle?

  • Do you already own a bitch hitch rack that you can use to your advantage?

  • Are you looking for something weather resistant that will keep your equipment out of the elements?

  • Do you have a particular taste or style preference for your vehicle?

Option 1: If you already have a rack on your vehicle, a rooftop cargo box might be a good choice for you. There are many different cargo box options available.  The Inno Wedge in particular is incredibly sleek and modern looking.  Whereas the Thule Force is a more classic option that can fit and carry bulkier cargo.  We would recommend  checking your vehicle’s rack system for proper fit and verifying the length of your skis before committing to a purchase.

Option 2: If you already have a rack on your vehicle, a Ski or Snowboard carrier such as the Yakima Fat Cat Evo or the Thule SnowPack Extender might be a great option for you.  Like a cargo box, these can be attached to a vehicle’s installed rack system, but unlike a cargo box, they tend to be a bit lighter on the wallet.  These options are both very secure and lock down your skis and snowboards firmly.  One thing to note is that unlike a cargo box, your equipment will be exposed to the elements.  You can learn more about this option by checking out the video below:

Option 3: The Thule Tram or Yakima Hitchski are cost effective options for someone who is already in possession of a 4-5 bike trailer hitch rack. The Tram and Hitchski are essentially attachments for hitch racks like the Thule Apex 4 or Yakima Fullswing, allowing for the transportation of multiple pairs of skis or snowboards. You can learn more about this option by check out the video below:

Yakima's New RailGrab Towers for Factory Installed Side Rails

Yakima has always had rock-solid options for putting crossbars on your vehicle's factory installed rails. Their LowRider and LowRider Max rack systems fit most vehicles with raised rails and the Locking EZ Rider towers fit most vehicles with flush rails. But now, Yakima has one tower system that works on both types of factory rails, the RailGrab. With the new Yakima 0138 RailGrab Towers for Railing Mounted Car Roof Racks , you can put Yakima crossbars on practically any factory installed rails, but this isn't your usual One Size "Fits" All situation. You truly get a custom fit for your rack, and if you buy a new vehicle, or you want to swap your rack between two vehicles, you'll still get a great, low-profile rack that fits like a glove regardless of factory rail type or size.     Installing Railgrab towers won't take very long. For the front crossbar, first slide two towers onto the bar and install the end caps to keep the towers from sliding off. Then
