Even though Yakima only produces two
sizes
of rain gutter towers (while Thule produces five), their rain gutter
mounted
racks will fit almost any vehicle with rain gutters. They even have you
covered
if you don't have rain
gutters! If you
can use a drill (or you know someone who can) you can mount artificial
rain
gutter plates on your truck, cap, or campershell.

Instructions/Tips
Yakima only has 2 different complete rain
gutter roof rack options: the Yakima
0101 1A Rain Gutter Towers, which fit standard rain gutter mounts;
and the Yakima
0104 1A HiRise Rain Gutter Towers, which fit rain gutter
applications that need
more roof top clearance. Installing these two Rain Gutter racks is very
similar
and easily done. The Yakima Rain Gutter Towers come with clip spacers,
which
are used to help keep the towers vertical. Use the clip spacers if they
fit
with your application. Otherwise, they’re not needed. They also come
with
a rubber boot for the bottom portion of the towers. The rubber boot is
used to
create more friction. The rule on using the boot is “if the boot fits,
wear it.” Otherwise, this component is not needed. When assembling the
rack simply loosen the shear block bolts, which are located on the back
portion
of the tower. Once the bolt has been loosened slide the Yakima round
bars
through the shear block. To keep the towers from sliding off the
crossbars
install the crossbar end caps. Keep the shear block loose until you
find where
you want to mount the crossbar on your vehicle. Make sure that the
towers rest
on the inside of the rain gutter and the clips rest on the outside.
After
locating the mounting point, adjust the crossbar so that the bar is
evenly
distributed on both sides. It is also allowable to put the bars "off
center,"
just make sure you have about one inch of bar minimum on the outside of
each
tower. Next, tighten the shear block bolts with the included wrench.
This will
prevent the crossbars from sliding through the towers. The last step
would be
to tighten the handwheels into the threaded holes in all four towers.
(The
handwheels are the four lock housings with the bolt built onto the
backside.)
When you tighten the handwheels this will tighten the clips to your
rain
gutter, which will secure the rack to you vehicle.
Test The Installation
Push up on the end of bar to test the installation. Also, grab the bar
near
the towers and pull back and forth. If the tower slides or crossbar can
rotate,
check tower for tightness and retighten.
The Yakima 1A Complete Rain Gutter Mounted Roof Rack is specifically designed to fit vehicles with rain gutters or installed artificial rain gutters. This complete rack includes 3 components: 4 of the Yakima 0101 1A Rain Gutter Towers, 1 Pair of Yakima Round bars for Car Roof Racks, and 4 End Caps. The bottom of the Yakima round bar is 5.5” inches above the rain gutter. In most cases Yakima's recommended round bar length will be supplied unless otherwise specified. Yakima 7204 4 Pack SKS Lock Cores are sold separately.
Although we don't currently offer a complete Yakima 1A HiRise Rain Gutter Mounted Rack as a single item purchase, we do carry all the components necessary to rack your vehicle. For a complete rack you'll need the Yakima 0104 1A HI Rise Rain Gutter Towers (which includes all four towers and 4 Round Bar End Caps) and a pair of Yakima Round Bars. The bottom of the Yakima round bar is about 9” inches above the bottom of the Yakima HiRise Rain Gutter Tower. SKS Lock cores are recommended and are sold separately. If you already have Yakima's 1A Rain Gutter Towers, but find you need taller towers, we've got a great solution. You can convert your existing 1A Raingutter Towers into 1A HiRise Towers with the Yakima 1101 1A Hi Rise Spacers. These spacers attach to 1A Rain Gutter Towers to raise the overall height of the rack 3.5", providing additional roof clearance. Primarily used on rain gutter vehicles with domed rooflines or factory installed roof racks. Set includes 4 Hi Rise Spacers and all necessary hardware.
The Yakima 8005 Bolt Top Loader Artificial Rain Gutter Brackets are designed to be bolted to the top of your fiberglass truck cap or sheet metal roof. They provide a stable platform for 1A Rain gutter Towers and are sold in pairs.
The Yakima 8002 Side Loader artificial rain gutter brackets bolt to the side of your fiberglass pick up truck cap or metal roof, providing a stable platform for 1A Rain Gutter Towers. Side Loader brackets are sold in pairs.
Yakima's 8001 Wide Body artificial rain gutter brackets bolt to the side of your fiberglass pick-up truck cap providing extra space for the inward lean of 1A Towers. Wide Body Artificial Rain Gutters are designed for 1A Rain Gutter Towers and are sold in pairs.
